I’ve been an illustrator, designer, and artist for over 25 years. My work centers around two styles.

The first, which I’m best known for, is Primitíf. It draws on simplified, “primitive” figures inspired by Oceanic and African art, as well as animist forms from the Philippines—my heritage—where such figures are used to protect land and nature. I use this playful, textured, and color-rich style to explore themes of diversity, social and political issues, and storytelling.

The second style, Realismé, is a more recent direction focused on political, cultural, and historical subjects. It aims to present a deeper sense of reality—one shaped by my own perspective of truth, often overlooked or softened by mainstream media. Through single, striking images, I invite viewers to pause, reflect, and reconsider what they see—much like a stop sign demanding attention. The work has morphed from political commentary to being used for healthcare, wellness, storytelling, graphics and product design.

My father worked in engraver for The Washington Post. I would run around the Post building as a child and look at the images in the paper he brought home every morning. This began my journey as an editorial artist. I was surrounded by the news and politics of the day.

My Illustrations have  appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, and other publications. I was also a regular contributor to the Miami Herald’s Tropic Magazine, creating weekly illustrations for True Lies—a space where I could experiment and respond to ideas in real time.

Before freelancing full time, I worked as a creative director in Washington, DC, focusing on advertising for diverse audiences across the U.S., which continues to shape how I approach storytelling and communication.

My work has been recognized by American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, Alternative Pick Awards, Capsule Books and Lürzer’s Archive’s 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide. I’ve also taught workshops at Ringling College of Art and Design and other schools. I was a adjunct at a college and faculty at a New England boarding school.

I live and work in New England with my family. When I’m not in the studio, I’m usually making some noise with music, chasing open roads on my motorcycle, or getting involved in the local community in whatever way I can.

At the core of my work is a belief that art should do more than sit on a wall—it should question, reveal, and speak to something deeper.
